FAQ
What is Sony X-OCN?
CFexpress A
X-OCN (eXtended tonal range Original Camera Negative) is Sony’s high-quality RAW recording format, designed to retain extensive image information while keeping file sizes more manageable than traditional RAW formats. It provides filmmakers with greater flexibility in post-production for color grading, exposure adjustments, and demanding cinematic workflows.
X-OCN is used across Sony’s professional Cinema Line and CineAlta ecosystem, including the FX5, BURANO, VENICE, and VENICE 2. The FX5 brings internal X-OCN recording to a compact Cinema Line camera using CFexpress Type A media, making sustained card performance particularly important.
