The City Is Coming to Erase It All

Fin Greenall spent his early years DJing and writing with Amy Winehouse before Ninja Tune took a chance on him as the label's first proper singer-songwriter. Two decades and eight studio albums later, he's still doing it alongside Tim Thornton (drums, guitar) and Guy Whittaker (bass), a road-hardened three-piece that has worked its way through nearly every club and hall Europe has to offer, more than once.

Their ninth album, The City Is Coming to Erase It All, picks up where 2024's Beauty In Your Wake left off. The band went back to Zennor, Cornwall, unfinished business, Greenall calls it, and set themselves a rule: nothing on the record could exist that didn't exist in 1974. Grammy-winning producer Sam Okell held them to it, right down to the strings on the guitars, chasing the spirit of Michael Chapman's cult classic Fully Qualified Survivor.

Greenall calls it nowstalgia rather than nostalgia, new songs wearing an old ethos. There's something fitting in that: the same restlessness that sent an 18-year-old Greenall out into the world is what still drags a band of family men back on the road, unwilling to let a Marseille or a Montpellier fade from memory.

A live take only exists once. Angelbird's storage is built to make sure that when it happens, it's held onto exactly as it sounded, no lost detail, no missing content, whether that's a single footstep at the start of a song or the quietest pause before the next verse.

Little Big Beat Studios in Liechtenstein gives a band like Fink somewhere to do that properly: tape machines and a live room designed to keep a performance honest, with an audience close enough to feel part of it rather than watching from a distance.

Bringing Fink into that room means putting a band built on instinct and years of stage-time in front of tape again, a fitting way to record an album that's already thinking hard about what gets lost, and what's worth holding onto.

On Saturday, 26 September and Sunday, 27 September 2026, at 8pm, Fink takes the stage at Little Big Beat Studios in Eschen, Liechtenstein, for two Studio Live Sessions, evenings of analog recording built around the songs of The City Is Coming to Erase It All.
